Treasure Trove of Middle-earth History

Lord Elrond is the son of Eärendil and Elwing, who at the end of the First Age chose to belong to the Firstborn,
and remained in Middle-earth until the end of the Third Age; master of Imladris Rivendell) and keeper of Vilya, the Ring of Air, which he had received from Gil-galad. Called Master Elrond and Elrond Half-elven. The name means ‘Star-dome.’

Lord Elrond kept relics of the First Age in his museum at Rivendell. The Narsil was the mighty sword of Elendil. It was forged by Telchar in Beleriand. The Narsil was broken at Elendil's death upon the slopes of Orodruin. Isildur used the hilt-shard to cut the One Ring off of Sauron's hand. The shards were ofttimes carried by the Heirs of Isildur; they were held by Lord Elrond in safe keeping, until the year 3018, when they were reforged for Aragorn, who then called the sword Anduril.

Anduril: The sword of Aragorn, reforged from the shards of 'the Sword that was Broken' during the War of the Ring. The name means West-brilliance.

The Lord of the Rings, page 294:
The Sword of Elendil was forged anew by Elvish smiths, and on it's blade was traced a device of seven stars set between the crescent Moon and the rayed Sun, and about them was written many runes; for Aragorn son of Arathorn was going to war upon the marches of Mordor. Very bright was that sword when it was made whole again; the light of the sun shone redly in it, and the light of the moon shone cold, and its edge was hard and keen.

Tolkien described the derivation of the name Narsil as follows, 'Narsil is a name composed of 2 basic stems without variation or adjuncts: NAR 'fire', & THIL 'white light'. It thus symbolised the chief heavenly lights, as enemies of darkness, Sun (Anar) and Moon Isil' (Quenya).
                              -J. R. R. Tolkien, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien No 347, 1972

Rivendell nestled in a deep valley cutting through the moors sloping up to the Misty Mountains. Its sides were so steep that Gandalf's horse almost slid over the edge when he led the Dwarves east, and the company "slithered and slipped ... down the steep zig-zag path."
The House of Lord Elrond, the Last Homely House was "'a big house ... [always] a bit more to discover.'" There were at least two large halls: Elrond's Hall, where the feast was held, and the pillared Hall of Fire, which was just across the passage. These were evidently next to the front door, for Frodo could see the glow of the firelight from the outside before the Fellowship's departure. Outside the house there were gardens on the east and south and a path that led along the terrace to a stone seat where Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam met.

Note - It is important to recognize the Royal Marriage symbolism that unites both Lights [Sun and Moon] may be personified as Aragorn and Arwen in the Astrosome [dream laboratory] during REM. These archetypal figures shapeshift to align with our day-by-day topic, at high priority status in the center ring, when we enter REM. The symbolic relationships are faithfully rendered in the sets, fashion, and weaponry design provided by the Peter Jackson cast and crew contributing to, THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Unfortunately, the cement world we city folk now occupy elevates the stress factor effect to the point that deeper sleep is more elusive. It can take us so long to dissolve the tension of our fast paced day and get to sleep we lack enough time to move from light slumber to level 8 before the alarm clock rings. At the same time we miss the opportunity to repair wear and tear on the physical temple.

Set designs for Rivendell and Lothlórien, in particular, appear timeless, in part for this reason.

Tolkien balanced compliments or pointed out the reasons they were out of balance. The proper application of Mars is possible only when the Royal Marriage exists. The symbol for achievement of a perfect relationship between the Two Lights and Mars is most often the Ruby Ring [Tolkien designated this power ring as the Ring of Fire, carried in secret by Gandalf the Grey]; sometimes the Wolf [as worn by Maximus in GLADIATOR] or Anubis, and less frequently, tools of a blacksmith, whitesmith, and/or metallurgist [as the ones in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN] are most appropriate.

Moon square Mars
Grant Lewi centers his interpretation of the Moon square Mars [90 angle] on early life, partly because the ‘child genius’ often finds the aspect in the first 7 year cycle of life. The Lord of the Rings has many threads that reference the Phoenix rising again, most of them associated with Moon square Mars.

The reforging of Narsil by the elves of Rivendell calls to mind the legendary power of the eclipse cycle [when the divine walk among mortals] the power of the sword that cut the ring of power from Sauron's hand. Narsil refers to the light of the Sun [pure gold] and the light of the Moon [pure silver] that suggests both the lights and the moment they join in the eclipse. see also Ladyhawke and Second Breakfast

Lewi writes: "Your mind was quick, apt, facile, expressive, and able to absorb and give back knowledge readily, so that you were the delight of your parents and teachers, giving promise of great achievement in later life. In many ways you were extraordinarily precocious throughout youth; and at any time in life you possess an exceptional mentality and great possibilities. Your mind is analytic and scientific rather than artistic and creative; and although the creative urge is powerful, the creative force is not usually present with this configuration. Anything that requires knowledge, factual application, technical ease, or critical insight, is your forte, and in these fields you can go far. As a scientist, mathematician, critic, or technician, your mind is invaluable, and the independence and originality of your thought processes enable you to forge to the front. There is with this aspect some danger that after the first glow and flush of youth is past, the great urge to better and improve yourself will in some subtle and inexplicable way be dissipated and lost ...."

Spear of Gil-galad, Aiglos the Snow-point

"...for the Spear of Gil-galad and the Sword of Elendil, Aiglos and Narsil, none could withstand."

Words of Elrond from The Fellowship of the Ring II 2, The Council of Elrond

Tolkien describes the birth of the Third Age of the World, and gives a clue about the close proximity of the destiny of Narsil, in The Silmarillion:

The host of Gil-galad and Elendil had the victory, for the might of the Elves was still great in those days, and the Numenoreans were strong and tall, and terrible in their wrath. Against Aeglos the spear of Gil-galad none could stand; and the sword of Elendil filled Orcs and Men with fear, for it shone with the light of the sun and of the moon, and it was named Narsil.

Then Gil-galad and Elendil passed into Mordor and encompassed the stronghold of Sauron; and they laid siege to it for seven years, and suffered grievous loss by fire and by the darts and bolts of the Enemy, and Sauron sent many sorties against them. There in the valley of Gorgoroth Anarion son of Elendil was slain, and many others. But at the last the siege was so strait that Sauron himself came forth; and he wrestled with Gil-galad and Elendil, and they both were slain, and the sword of Elendil broke under him as he fell. But Sauron also was thrown down, and with the hilt-shard of Narsil Isildur cut the Ruling Ring from the hand of Sauron and took it for his own. Then Sauron was for that time vanquished, and he forsook his body, and his spirit fled far away and hid in waste places; and he took no visible shape again for many long years. Thus began the Third Age of the World…

Aiglos (Aeglos)
• Snowthorn

The fearsome spear of Ereinion Gil-galad, last of the High Kings of the Noldor. Its name in Elvish was Aiglos (often also spelt Aeglos), which is variously translated as 'Snow-point', 'Snowthorn' or 'Icicle'. Gil-galad is known to have carried his spear to the Battle of Dagorlad outside the Morannon in the closing years of the Second Age. Though it is not otherwise recorded, it seems more than reasonable to assume that it was also with him seven years later, when he fell in combat with the Dark Lord Sauron himself.

Mars - Iron

Mars/Iron is the last metal to be completely mastered in the work of the alchemist. Mars cannot be properly utilized should the Two Lights fail to maintain equillibrium. Perhaps this is the reason no iron was permitted in the construction of The Temple of Solomon?

The Ring of Air, Vilya [Blue Ring of Sapphire] was completed by Celebrimbor and the Mírdain of Eregion, the same time as the other two Elf rings. [The three rings on the dock at Grey Havens.] Vilya was originally [c. II 1590] borne by Gil-galad. He gave the Blue Ring to Lord Elrond, who used it to establish Rivendell.

Lord Elrond preserved the shards of Narsil, destined to be the Flame of the West, and many other priceless treasures in the library-museum at Rivendell. The royal symbol of the Dúnedain, the Sceptre of Annúminas and other heirlooms of the House of Isildur were saved by Elrond. In Middle-earth, the High King of the exiled Númenóreans [II 32 - II 3319], held the Royal Sceptre, which had been the symbol of the Lords of Andúnië in Númenor.

Sun 14° 41' Aries, the Ram - Cardinal Sign ~ Ruler, Mars, the Aggressive Urge
Metal: Iron, Steel
Sol is deposited in Eridanus, the Leo Decanate of Aries, the longest pattern in the sky. Sometimes called the river of life, watery boundaries reach the largest area of any of the constellations. There is a close connection between Eridanus and the image of Rivendell drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien.

In mythology, Phaethon fell to earth when he lost control of the chariot of his father Apollo, into the river Eridanus. THE MATRIX face-off from hell, between Neo and Agent Smith in REVOLUTIONS, brings us to a close approximation of the plumeting effect suggested by this Decanate of Aries. Except for the Alpha Centauri and Sirius systems Epsilon Eridani is the star closest to us at about eleven light years distance.

Solar chart Moon [time unknown] approximately 16° Moonchild
Mercury 17° Pisces, the Fishes [the Moon rules the Second Decanate of Pisces, Andromeda], in a wide conjunction with Venus @ 23° Pisces

Hugo Weaving's Mars in Pisces @ 1°41' conjunct Chiron [wisest and most famous of the Centaurs, noted for skill in medicine, prophecy, and higher mind education] as he is deposited at the doorway of Pisces @ 0°07' and encapsulates many of the characteristics Tolkien bestowed on Lord Elrond in his heroic sagas of Middle-earth. The Elves are master archers, equestrians, and healers. It is also relevant that Chiron gave the gift of immortality to Prometheus [the name means "Fore-thought"], "the fire-bringer," since Lord Elrond [sometimes Elrond Half-Elven*] is an immortal, with ancient knowledge of metallurgy, enchantment, and the forge.

* Arda Encyclopedia records that, "Both of Elrond's parents were half-elven, and after the War of Wrath he was given a choice; whether to be counted amongst the kindred of Elves or of Men. He chose the Firstborn, and remained in Lindon with High King Gil-galad."

1) What do you think of Peter Jackson's technique when white light filtered into diffused light and we see Frodo in his bed in Rivendell? Did you think it could have been done differently or could other special effects have been used to improve or enhance Jackson's effect in any way?

2) If you think changes should have been made, why to you feel that way? What changes would you make? If you like the scene as is, what do you like most about it?

3) When Frodo awoke he realized he was a very lucky little Hobbit, but Gandalf told Lord Elrond he would always have the wound. It would never fully heal. Did you get the feeling it would have been easier for Frodo to bear that bit of bad news had he been told the actual situation Gandalf endured at the hands of Saruman? Yes or No? Why?

4) Looking ahead to THE RETURN OF THE KING we know Aragorn has healing skills, knows the secrets of Middle-earth plants and trees, possibly homeopathy as well? Did you feel that his healing skill, also seen in 'Houses of Healing' scene with Eowyn in the extended DVD, and when he was healing Faramir [not seen], were taught by Elrond? Were they skills acquired or inherent as a decendant of Isildur? Did the film imply his longevity permitted far-ranged scope so Aragorn could have learned healing skills from several Middle-earth communities?

2) Did you think Doctor Paul Novotny [Max von Sydow] maintained an appropriate degree of realism in his approach to Alex Gardner [Dennis Quaid]? Yes or No? Why? At what point in the film did you draw a conclusion as to their relationship?

3) Do you believe that Alex Gardner also had, beyond his clairvoyant/telekinetic ability that qualified him for the dream project, the seventh sense, radar? If so, what convinced you he had more technical skill than someone with six senses?

Question
Do you feel the phenomenon known as "The Mothman" can be tracked back to alterations in natural atmospheric conditions, manipulation of electricity and sound [little "black box" on the telephone pole, wire, etc.], a blot of mustard, an underdone potato, or other?

Alice Bailey & Djwhal Khu write, "It is the gate into the world of forms, into physical incarnation, and the sign wherein the duality of form and of soul is unified in the physical body.
The opposite sign to Cancer is Capricorn, and these two constitute the two gates, one being the gate into form life, and the other into spiritual life; one opening the door into the mass form of the human family, and the other into the universal state of consciousness, which is the Kingdom of spirit. One marks the beginning of human experience on the physical plane, the other marks its climax. One signifies potentiality, and the other consummation.

Alqualonde, The Haven of the Swans
Swanhaven took its name from the Elvish preference for carving their ships in the shapes of great swans. There could be a connection with the constellation Cygnus, The Swan, a favourite of celestial navigators. Eastern philosophers and teachers often receive the title 'Swan', perhaps because the neck of the bird resembles the 'S curve line of grace' associated with akasha, double helix, and lemniscate. Others linked to this line include the cobra and vulture.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS, The Two Towers extended DVD offers more explanation about the arrival of Haldir and other Elves at the eleventh hour. The screen version suggests Lord Elrond sends support for Rohan on the basis of "an alliance that once existed between Elves and Men" in reference to the Siege of Barad-dûr at the end of the Second Age.
